     Fundraising experts told 80-20: 

     "If SELF can reach $750,000/yr for 5 yrs, if 80-20 Initiative is worthy and your community is   warm blooded, then you'll get every kind of help from every corner of your community to reach $1 million/yr."

     That projection seems TRUE!   The following "Total Donation by State" was provided by Wei-jing Zhu of Pal Alto, CA.  He constructed the following chart from published data.  He has been donating $20,000/yr and has just recruited a $1,000/yr donor for SELF.

     CA is, as expected, first.  CA has 35% of this nation's AsAm population.  It accounts for $1.32 million of the current $3.9 million pledged thus far.  

     DE, MN, NY, TX, NJ and MA follow CA.  

     DE's second place is not really earned, because 80-20 PAC &  EF, both registered in  DE, have donated very generously.  However, money from the  coffers of PAC and EF, was  raised  from throughout the nation .

     Speaking from the heart is the best way.  One of the letters, shown below, enriched our war chest by thousands of dollars per year.

     "I have been receiving the email below a number of times and feel compelled to share this with you. This organization is fighting against discrimination targeting Asian or Chinese Americans.      We are at  $774,800/yr for 5 yrs.  With only 74 days left, we MUST  raise $3500/yr for 5 yrs each day --  a very challenging  goal.

 

     SELF received a big boost from Al and Shirley Foung of Los Angeles yesterday. They increased their donation from $5000/yr to $8000/yr for 5 yrs.  Thanks to this generous couple, plus a few other NEW donors, we hit the goal of raising $3.5k/yr per day.

 

     Donors: Please kindly consider doubling or tripling your donation. New donors are appearing but we still need your help.

 

     Non-donors:  Please start giving. 

 

     We know that there are about 1500 persons who had religiously read EVERY 80-20  e-newsletter, but who have not donated a cent to SELF. If you are in that group,  please pitch in with your money.  

 

     80-20 initiative is absolutely serious that if we can't reach the $1 million/yr  for 5  yrs goal, 80-20 PAC will cease operation.  Have you then lived up  to your responsibility  to give your offspring a better life?  

     Those of us at  80-20 have mostly given 16 year of our lives  volunteering to serve you.  We feel that we have done our best.   Have you?

 

     Whether you are a donor or non-donor, please try to recruit ONE new donor for 80-20 who will donate $100/yr for 5 yrs.  We need 2000 of them.  If we achieve that goal, we will have shown amazing cohesiveness within our community.  No one will likely dare to tread on us again.

We'll be "Foreigners" for a Long, Long Time      The earlier generations of Irish, Polish, and Jewish  immigrants had their moments of feeling like  perpetual foreigners, although they possessed attributes helping them assimilate to American culture and society: 1) appearance - they looked like Caucasians, 2) accents - most Americans had heard similar accents from their relatives; some may have even considered such accents endearing, and 3) cultural habits - the distinction between American and European culture was small.                                        Therefore, we, AsAms, are NOT likely to get rid of our "perpetual foreigners" image soon...perhaps, NEVER!              Not Important To Get Rid of Perpetual Foreigners Image      Have you seen orthodox Jews in their black gowns and caps walking on the street?  Did their appearances suggest "foreigners" to you?  YES. Do they enjoy equal opportunity and equal rights in America?  YES!   Why?  The Jewish community packs POLITICAL CLOUT!                                     The key is Political Clout -- 80-20 Is Your Only Choice.        Do you know of any individuals (including AsAm elected and appointed officials) or organizations (including all the AsAm civil rights orgs)  that will provide you with the needed political clout?   Most of them don't even dare talk about possessing political clout, much less trying to get it. 80-20 is your ONLY choice.                   Why is Political Clout so Important for AsAms?        The US law - all Americans are equal - is one thing.   Enforcing the law is another. Our politicians are not willing to enforce the laws for us.  Why?  The politicians  don't think we can  reward or  punish  them during their elections.  That is where political clout comes in.     Political clout means having the knowledge and ability to reward and punish politicians during their elections!  Is there any doubt  that 80-20 is the ONLY choice for you ?                           The Clock is Ticking.  Donate TODAY!     (1) If you are already a SELF donor, please either double or triple your donation AND help recruit a NEW donor.  The campaign to recruit 2000 NEW donors of $100/yr each is working too slowly for now. So during this transition time, we need you, who are big-hearted donors, to pick up the slack -- double or triple your donation today.                     (2) If you are not yet a donor, please DONATE now and then recruit a NEW donor.                           We Need To Reach $800,000/yr quickly     We are at $769,000/yr.  Only $31,000 from the target.  Get us to $800,000 /yr for 5 yrs quickly!  Wake up, "foreigners".   Empower ourselves & get political clout.  It is your only real answer.       Donate to SELF.  Or email   S. To Win, We Must Fight!

              

     We Are Winning the College Admissions Fight! 

     The following two media articles tell us how much things may have changed in our favor regarding college admissions.

     (1) June 9th, 2015, LA Times Op-Ed "The Truth about Holistic College Admissions"

     " ...  has holistic admissions become a guise for allowing cultural and even  racial biases to dictate the admissions process?   To some degree, yes ..."

     (2) June 9th, 2015, Business Insider, a website publication with a staff of 50, published this article: " Former Ivy League admissions dean: 'Racial stereotyping is alive and well"  

     "... Nowadays nobody on an admissions committee would dare use the term racial 'quotas,' but racial stereotyping is alive and well," Harberson writes in a Los Angeles Times op-ed article. "And          although colleges would never admit students based on 'quotas,' they fearlessly will 'sculpt' the class with race and gender percentages in mind."

     "Harberson is the former associate dean of admissions at the University of Pennsylvania and the former dean of admissions and financial aid at Franklin & Marshall College."

                   Why Are We Winning?

     Simple.  We began to fight for ourselves and fought well!  If we don't fight for ourselves, no one else will.

     80-20 spoke up against all the so called "AsAm  Civil Rights Orgs"  which all loudly supported "race-preference" college admission against AsAm applicants, and still do.  But they are losing our community's support badly.   

     Keep up the pressure.

             More Asian Americans Are Taking A Stand

       A coalition of 64 Asian American organizations   calling itself  The Coalition of Asian American Associations  has emerged to oppose  "race-preference" college admissions.  This is only the second AsAm national  group, besides the 80-20 Initiative, to take such a stand.  It is doing a great job. Its Chairman, YuKong Zhao,  published a succinct but superb piece in Forbes giving great examples of the diverse talent of Asian Am youths. 

     80-20 also wants to use this opportunity to compliment  The Asian American Legal Foundation, a SF Bay area org, which  actually  took a "race neutral" college admission stand before 80-20 did.  :-)

For the Good of the Whole (2) -- An exciting campaign to empower ourselves

 SELF-EMPOWERMENT!!!!  That is what  SELF is all about.  Victory  is near.  

            Here is how we'll raise the next $236,000/yr.

      We have 1,633 donors to SELF, whose donations averaged $500/yr for 5 yrs. They are the most dedicated to our community - the elite troop to secure the victory.  These magnificent individuals are on the average reasonably well to do. They have great hearts, willing to sacrifice a little for the benefit of the whole. They are strong believers in self-empowerment.   Chances are they are highly respected  by their fellow AsAms.

      With these great assets, they should be able to each easily recruit   ONE new donor, to contribute $100/yr  for 5 years.  80-20 will respectfully request them to each use 

                 (1) their personal email lists (NOT accessible to 80-20)  and 

                 (2) the form letter suggested  by 80-20,  shown below, 

to recruit.  Indeed, 80-20 predicts that many of these great and high-minded individuals may accidentally recruit two or more donors, since they will be sending out tens of such letters to ensure recruiting ONE.

80-20 will send a PERSONALIZED request to all donors for their assistance.   Donors:  Pls. check your inbox in the next 24 hours!

                   

      If, on the average, our existing donors will each recruit 1.5 new donor:  That will amount to  2,450 donors, yielding $245,000/yr for 5 yrs.  The $1 million/yr for 5 yrs goal will be achieved!   A great moment for the 20 million AsAms!!

For the Good of the Whole - How $762,000/year for 5 years was reached!

$762,000 per year for 5 yrs was reached, because of the deep sacrifices of hundreds!   

Read the names of new individuals & organizations joining the "$10,000 per year for 5 yrs" group!  Tens more joined the "$1,000 per year for 5 yrs" groups.  In addition, hundreds of former donors doubled, tripled and quintupled their sacrifice.

Statistics, however, doesn't tell the sacrifices made by individuals & orgs.  

In the past weeks, 80-20 emailed its already generous donors many times urging them to "render their BROAD shoulders".  In one of the emails, I used a true story.

"In asking you to do so, I will of course triple my own donation from $2500/yr 

to $7500/yr. for 5 yrs.  In addition, I also must donate $5000/yr to PAC, which Charles Zhang & Kathleen To, the other PAC Board members, must also donate annually.

I even dug into my father's legacy, Woo's Foundation (WF).  WF has tripled its annual donation to SELF today.  WF is now donating $40,000 per year to SELF.  It includes the $15,000/year committed today plus the $25,000/yr of matching fund committed on 2014/9/6.  By 2018, WF will have transferred 90% of its total asset of $300,000 to 80-20 Educational Foundation.  The transfer of funds started very early, as soon as 80-20 EF was established.  Will my father, in another world, disapprove of me?  I don't know. Hopefully, he'll be proud of me."  

If our readers think the above is a lot, it is nothing when compared with the sacrifices made by an anonymous couple, Prof. Alice Huang and many others who recently joined the "$10k/yr or more for 5 years" group!  But they didn't want me to tell their deeply moving sacrifices.

Future - reaching $1 million per year - is now our focus

"How $750,000 was reached" is history.  We now need to focus on the FUTURE  -- how to reach $1,000,000/yr for 5 yrs.  An exciting NEW campaign for the next 2.5 months will be announced in 2 days towards that goal.

IMAGINE, when together, who will dare to trample on us?  Much less likely.  Not after we will have demonstrated our great cohesive community spirit in achieving such an "IMPOSSIBLE" project!
