Urgent Appeal to NON-Chinese Asian Americans

“Win Rights TOGETHER or Lose Rights SEPARATELY”

Q: Is the above our only option?
A: YES. Read on.
Q: Don’t AsAms enjoy all rights already? Prove it to me,
    if we don’t!
A: AsAm ADULTS face the lowest glass ceiling in workplaces. AsAm
YOUTHS face the highest barrier in college admissions to first
tier universities. An average AsAm applicant must score 140 pts higher
than whites, 270 pts higher than Hispanics and 450 pts higher
than blacks to have the same chance to get in, according to
Princeton Sociologist Thomas Espenshade!
So whether we are adults or youths, in workplaces or applying for
colleges, we face the worst discrimination!
Q: Why does America dislike Asian Americans so much?
A: NO! America does NOT dislike Asian Americans. Every new immigrant
group to America had faced discrimination, be they Irish, Polish, Jewish
or Italians. Have you heard of the ”No Irish need apply” or “Harvard’s &
Yale’s quota against Jewish students” in earlier times in America?
So wise up & act. Learn from earlier immigrants. Use the political
process to win our rights.
Q: What does the political process mean?
A: It means getting enough money and votes together so that
politicians will know that AsAms can elect or unelect them depending
on whether they will use the power of the government to give us
EQUAL opportunity. The AsAm population is small. Hence, regardless
of where we are from, be we from South Asia, Southeast Asia or East
Asia, we must work together.
Q: Great! How do we get the political process started?
A: SUPPORT 80-20 which is by far the largest Asian Am political
organization with a 15 year record of distinguished services. It
  • Has delivered large bloc votes, the only kind that politicians
respect!
  • Possesses the largest war chest among AsAm PACs; is working
on making it even larger -- $1 million per year for 5 years
in its ambitious SELF program. However, 80-20 is all volunteers
with but 1 staff.
  • Clout! Pres. Obama, VP Biden and Former Sec. of State H.
Clinton have all answered 80-20’s questionnaire of 6 questions
with “6 yeses” .
  • Effectiveness! Pres. Obama has fulfilled 3 of his 6 promises to
80-20 by tripling the number of AsAm federal life-tenured
judges, since he took office.
Q: Is 80-20 a Chinese-Am org.? I am NOT a Chinese Am.
A: No! 80-20 works for all Asian Americans. For example of the AsAm
federal judges that Pres. Obama has appointed, owing to his promise
to 80-20
, the ethnic breakdown, as guessed by names, is:
5 Indian-Am judges,
3 Japanese-Am judges,
2 Korean–Ams judges,
2 Vietnamese-Ams judges,
1 Native Hawaiian judges,
1 Pacific Islanders judges and
8 Chinese-Am judges,
80-20 works for all AsAms. For example, it worked with 4
large Indian Am. national orgs to lobby successfully for the confir-
mation of Sri Srinivasan, an Indian Am., as an Appeals Court judge.
Sri is often touted as a possible Supreme Court Justice nominee.
Q: Which component of the AsAms has contributed the most
    to SELF?
A: The Chinese Ams. But that is not a big deal. Chinese-Ams represent
the largest component at 25%.
However, 90% of the donations came from Chinese Ams. That’s why
this “Urgent Appeal” is made. We are so small in numbers. Do we
need an united effort?
DEAR ASIAN AMERICANS:
We look to your wisdom. We’ll either win our rights TOGETHER
or lose our rights SEPARATELY.
Donate to SELF to help it raising at least $1 million per year for 5
years. S B Woo, who helped found 80-20, is now 76. He may at best
work for all Asian Ams for another 2 years to hopefully establish a
STRONG & LASTING political organization. It is for protecting YOU!
If 80-20 dies, will you gain or lose?
Respectfully,

Self-nominate to be on 80-20's Board of Donors

A Board of Donors is to be elected
A Board of Donors, BOD, will be elected by donors to our Self
Empowerment Longterm Fund, SELF project. BOD's functions will be:
1) to verify the existence of the escrow account on behalf of all donors,
2) to advise and help 80-20 accomplish its SELF fundraising goal,
3) be in complete control of $100,000 per year to forge UNITY of
the AsAm community, starting Nov. 2015 when SELF is accomplished,
4) to draft a set of bylaws for the BOD in order to accomplish the above
described functions, in consultation with 80-20 EF.
                             Q&A regarding BOD
Q: Who are the voting members of the BOD?
All who have donated $50 or more to SELF, up till 2 days before the day
of the election of BOD, are voting members. Voting members may not
only vote but also nominate self and/or others to run for BOD. You're
to submit your nominations to the Election Committee via
<8020office@gmail.com>
Q: What are the voting powers of each donor?
To encourage generosity, the bigger donors will have a bit
more voting power. Those donating
$50 to $99 : 1 vote              $100 to $499: 2 votes
$500 to $999: 3 votes         $1,000 to $1,999: 4 votes
$2000 to $4,999: 5 votes     $5,000 or more: 6 votes
Q: Why would YOU want to be a BOD member?
The BOD will have $100,000 in its complete control to distribute to
any AsAm orgs. and/or projects which share the same goal as 80-20 and
which see UNITY of the AsAm community as a must. Hence, an innovative
and effective BOD member can make a historic contribution to the
forging of UNITY
within the AsAm community. $100,000 is a lot of money.
Currently, it is the combined annual budget of 80-20 PAC and EF.
We either win rights TOGETHER or lose rights SEPARATELY.
Q: How many BOD Members will be elected?
It depends. The more candidates we’ll have, the more Board members
we’ll elect. All self nominations will be accepted. The prior consent of a nominee
is required, if a donor is to nominate others.
Q: When will the election be?
As soon as the total donation to SELF reaches $300,000/yr for 5 years.
The current total is $256,000. We are still $44,000/yr short. We hope
that WITH YOUR HELP we can reach $300,000/yr in about 30 days.
Aim high & think big! Pitch in to get the AsAm community
UNITED!
UNITY is our salvation. DONATE here to help achieve UNITY.

Exciting Update on 80-20 SELF project

See latest news on 80-20 Self Empowerment Longterm Fund, SELF.
Money talks. This fund aims to make your political voice heard.
   The Good News:
  1) Total donation received: $438,399 (See the top of the webpage.
Please click here .)
  2) The biggest donation: $120,000. See near the top of the wepage,
      under Honorary Founders;
  3) Many donors sent money in early: Several donors have sent in all
5 yrs. of their commitments. In the 3rd column a notation like “Confirmed
      5” means 80-20 has received all 5 years of a donor’s commitment;
  4) Many supporters donated ADDITIONAL money beyond their annual
commitments. See “plus $xxx” in the 2nd column; and
  5) Received matching gifts from 18 large companies matching
the donations of their employees to 80-20 EF. See words in green.
              Transparency Achieved, Accountability Next!
We’ve achieved transparency. That is, YOU now know (a) how much
money 80-20 has raised, & (2) who donated them. Accountability is our
next goal. 80-20 will soon hold an election for a “Board of Donors” to monitor
the money. ANY donor who has donated at least $50 to SELF may run for a
Board position and vote. Details will be provided in a separate email.
   The Bad news:
It is that SELF should have raised $304,000/year for 5 years by now, but
we’ve only raised $255,000/yr for 5 years. $50,000/year behind schedule!
NOTE: When SELF succeeds, 80-20 will serve you for decades. You
and your family will receive benefits that is many times the value of
your donation. If 80-20 doesn’t achieve its goal, you’ll get your money
back in FULL, although 80-20 will probably go out of existence! Recall
that the money is in an escrow account. Not a penny of $438,399 has been
spent.
Pitch in for such a GREAT common cause! YES, 80-20 may be a fool to
embark upon this BIG projects. Is it also true that foolhardy persons help
realize impossible dreams? Will you be a fool with us? Help establish a
strong & lasting political voice.
