A True Story!
America's Political Establishment Viewed AsAms as Weaklings

Time: 1988
Location: Dem. National Committee (DNC) in D.C
Background: S. B. Woo was Delaware's Lt. Governor. He was running for
US Senate as a Democrat* and visiting the DNC, having a
meeting with the Chair of the DNC Senate Campaign Comm.
At the time of that particular visit, Woo's prospects looked very
bright, he had raised a lot of money, and his polls against the
GOP's incumbent Senator Bill Roth looked good, although later
Woo was badly beaten by Roth in the general election.

After the meeting was over, Woo and the Chair were saying good bye. The Chair put his arm on Woo's shoulder, and looked Woo in his eyes and said, "Both political parties and the national media knew that the best way to deal with Asian Americans, even your activists, is to ignore them long enough or just tell them to go away.”

Why was it said to Woo? My best guess is that the Chair thought I might soon be a part of America's political establishment. Like so many AsAm politicians in the past, I'd soon be siding with the establishment and betraying the rightful interests of AsAms. As a result, I'd incur the anger of the AsAm activists, and the Chair is foretelling me not to worry. There is an easy solution: just ignore the AsAm activists or just tell them to go away.

Why am I telling this story now?** Sen. Blackburn's outrageous insult to our heritage! Let no AsAm feel that we've been ignored long enough and therefore it is time to quit

Blackburn is a US Senator whose words influence a lot of people. We’ll need to either get her to withdraw her tweet and apologize to us, or punish her severely in a very convincing and visible manner for her affront, or defeat her in her re-election bid in 2024.

Let words go forward that this generation of AsAms have long memories and plenty of sustaining power.

"This proposal comes as faculty members escalate opposition to criminal cases and the U.S. balances international academic collaboration with proper disclosure." One well-known example of "faculty members escalate opposition" is the case involving Prof. Gang Chen of MIT. See a Boston Globe article entitled "MIT president and faculty members defend professor arrested for China ties". The MIT professors circulated a letter on social media entitled "We are all Gang Chen."

become an Independent, & has promised not to run for office or accept a
federal appointment.
**Actually, I've told this true story to my fellow Board Members many times.

80-20 gratefully acknowledges all donors, who helped 80-20 accomplish its
goal to raise $1,000,000 by the end of Jan., including:

Eleanor and Peter Chiang, Northbrook, IL:    $25,000, and
William Uy, Antioch, CA:                                 $10,000.

We need to raise $4 millions more this year to establish a world-class AsAm political organization. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT!

Steadily Increasing Pressure on Blackburn

Steadily INCREASING Pressure On Blackburn

   (1) On Dec. 3, 2020, when Sen. Marsha Blackburn of TN tweeted:  "China has a 5000 year history of cheating and stealing. Some things will never change...".

   (2) Without creating any pubblicity, S. B Woo emailed and faxed Sen. Blackburn asking her to withdraw her tweet and apologize to our community.

   (3) Getting no response, 80-20 went public with her outrageous tweet, and organized 550 to 1000 phone calls/faxes/emails to pour into her office asking for an apology, tying up her D.C. phone and fax lines for days.

  (4) Still getting no response, 80-20 worked with TNCAA (Tennessee Chinese Am. Alliance) and UCA (United Chinese Americans) to buy a full-page ad in newspapers of the 4 largest TN cities exposing Blackburn’s ignorance and hatefulness and asked her to apologize.  2,000 of her voters, breaking 70/30 in non-AsAms/AsAms, signed to support the ads to oppose Blackburn's
tweet.

   (5) A few days ago, 80-20 President S. B. Woo emailed/faxed Sen. Blackburn for the 2nd time, asking her to apologize. His message included the following:

"... In order to further persuade you to apologize, we are considering
seeking the support of 2 prominent Republicans & 2 Democrats for
the ad. shown here. They are: Former Sen. Bob Corker (R) who just
retired, Manny Sethi who was a GOP Senate primary contestant
in 2009, former Governor Philip Norman Bredesen Jr. (D) whom you
defeated in your last election and Former Congressman (1997-2007)
Harold Eugene Ford Jr. (D). ….."

"PS:  Did you read a 12/21/2020 guest column published in the
Tennessean, entitled Marsha Blackburn's 'cheating and stealing'
attack on China is historically inaccurate. It explained point-by-point
why your tweet of Dec. 3 is wrong."

Our Message To Sen. Blackburn?

The 4 former Republican and Democratic officials named above plus Dolly Parton and others could be Blackburn's primary and general election opponents in her re-election bid.
Dolly Parton is an American singer known for her work in country music. She is also an author, businesswoman, and humanitarian. Dolly Parton is a unifying force in a divided United States. That’s the central theme of the podcast series “Dolly Parton’s America”, released late last year. In some circles, she is hotly discussed as an ideal Senate candidate for TN to replace Blackburn. Parton is smart (IQ of 145while Blackburn is ignorant. Parton's "unify America theme" is the diametric opposite of Blackburn's die-hard support of Trump. Please FORWARD this email to all your TN friends. Spread this message!

Has Blackburn Answered Woo's 2nd Fax to Her Yet?

No. Sen. Blackburn's D.C. and TN offices were all closed in the last 5 days. We'll wait for a few more days but not too much longer, before we take serious actions.
