The Total Donation Received is $ 2,999,543.   Click here to verify.  This war chest is for ALL OF US in the AsAm community.  80-20 Board Members, including me, are volunteers. We also donated, many extremely generously, to help set up this war chest. Only staff are paid.     When you visit the donation acknowledgement page, you'll see a pink background highlighting many donors.  It signifies that he/she/they have already completed their 5 year pledges.   Role models. Ho, Larry and Sophia, Lexington, MA    $ 4800/y plus $100 The red plus $100 means that the couple has not only complete their $4800 per year for 5 years pledge.  In addition, they donated another $100.  Role models.              The Real Significance of Reaching $3 million -                            Establishing a New Cultural Trait       Money talks.  The cultural trait that governs a community is even more powerful.  The real significance of having established this war chest is that a new cultural trait has been established.  Our community has decided to rely on ourselves to defend our own rights.                                    A Real Story       A big donor to SELF missed a payment.  So 80-20 emailed him a reminder.   The donor replied asking for the dollar amount he still owed to SELF.  EF replied that since he had raised the annual donation amount after having made a couple of earlier donations, the amount he owed was somewhat up to interpretation.  He could send $1,600 or a much larger amount of $4,600 to complete his 5-year pledge. EF would be grateful for either amount the donor chose to send.      Victor Yu, Sunnyvale, CA replied:      "The check of $4,600 will arrive within 2 weeks.  My new address       is ...  Thanks and I apologize that you needed to email me a        reminder.  Victor"      Victor Yu's reply has encouraged us to no end. He and all of you, who donated your time and money, to help establish the new cultural trait of "helping ourselves to defend our own rights" are great role models.                  A  Tough Time Ahead -  Let's Forge UNITY        The Asian American community, particularly the Chinese American community, may be facing some tough times in the coming months and years. We wish him all success including terminating the discrimination against Asian American applicants.  Please click here to read a NYT article about this appointment.                              Our Fight to Win Equal Opportunity                                 for AsAm Children Is Progressing     The article is only 12 short paragraphs.  However, 1.5 paragraphs were devoted to an issue that the Asian American community had focused on:        "   The university is facing a number of immediate          challenges. . . . . ."         "   Harvard is also facing an investigation by the Justice          Department into its affirmative action policies and whether          they discriminate against Asian-American applicants, as          well as a lawsuit making the same claims in federal court          in Boston."     All who have  donated to 80-20 EF's SELF project, and/or signed its petition, and/or joined 80-20 PAC as members, and/or  forwarded 80-20's emails to friends and relatives can be VERY PROUD of your contribution to create the awareness to get the NYT to cover this possible fault of Harvard at the announcement of its new president.  It's an impressive achievement!      We also like to acknowledge the the great contribution of Students for Fair Admission (SFFA) led by Mr. Ed Blum, and Asian Am. Coalition of Educational (AACE) which brought the charge against Harvard via DOJ and DOE.      You may recall that that AsAm community is mounting a 3-pronged attack against Harvard's discrimination against AsAm applicants.  Mr. Blum heads the legal fight through the Judicial Branch of our government.  AACE filed complaints with the Administrative Branch.  80-20 fights the battle against Harvard through the Court of Public Opinion.         We are winning in the Court of Public Opinion.  The battles in the other two fronts are also going well.      Be Proud!  You've all contributed to this critical battle to eliminate inequity in education.                                                   Donate S. How to Defeat a racist elected Official

For a Chinese  version of this e-newsletter, click https://goo.gl/6GsJWe .                                 How To Protect Ourselves?       When an elected official has wronged the AsAm community greatly, do we have a recourse?  YES.       80-20 Educational Foundation (EF), as a 501 c-3, may NOT help to elect or defeat a political candidate.  However, as a political education org., EF may show AsAms how to accomplish such a feat as a way of protecting ourselves from abuse by callous/racist  officials.                  Past Experience In Un-electing Bad Officials     Remember the Stop SCA 5 movement?  I was PAC's president then. Two AsAm officials in CA, State Senator Leland Yee and Assemblyman Paul Fong, turned their backs to our appeals for help.   Two days after SCA 5 was defeated, 80-20 PAC publicly announced to drive both out of politics.  A year later they were out of politics.                         How to Defeat an Elected Official     It is a 3-step process.         First, study this politician, X.   Understand X's and our own strengths and weaknesses very thoroughly.      Secondly, find a strong primary opponent for X, by (a) exposing and publicizing X's weakness, (b) tooting the merits of the potential opponents of X and (c) providing early seed money for the campaign of X's strongest opponent.     Thirdly, find, in addition, a strong opponent for X in the general election, using the same methodology described above.      When election time arrives, X will face a tough civil war. Even supposing that X wins the primary, the exhausted X will then face a tough general election. Even supposing that X was so lucky as to still win the general election, X will likely have learned never to wrong our community again.      Realistically, however, if we go through the 3 steps effectively, X will be defeated. The word will gradually spread in the political establishment not to fool around with us, IF we can demonstrate, a number of times, our political will and ability to defeat politicians who have really wronged us.      Don't hide our intention to defeat X, we want X to know. America is the land of the free and home of the brave. If we don't have the courage to defend ourselves, then we will forever be stepped on.                                          Sharing More Past Experience        When I was PAC's president, PAC practically emailed its plan to defeat a callous CA Congressman as a "shot across his bow."  He got our message, and adjusted.  :-)  As a result, PAC helped create a win-win, a win for the AsAm community and a win for America whose political system permits the checking and balancing of a bad official through citizens' action.                  Politics Needs to be Learned like Everything Else      That is why you need an org. like the 80-20 Initiative.  It has two components. 80-20 EF does political education.  80-20 PAC EXECUTES to reward and punish. Small Enough to Jail - an injustice against AsAms

For a Chinese  version of this e-newsletter, https://goo.gl/6GsJWe .                        An Outrageous Injustice Against An AsAm Bank          (If you own a business, view the documentary & worry!)          Abacus Bank, a small bank operated by the Sung family in NYC, was the only U.S. bank to be charged after the Great Recession of 2008. The bank ultimately prevailed, but it took all they had to fight against the unfair accusations.                     The story was recorded in a documentary by Steve James, Abacus: Small Enough to Jail.  It was Broadcast on PBS Frontline in 2017. The prosecutor spent 5 years and reportedly $10 million on prosecuting the bank for larceny.  In the end, the bank and all its employees were found not guilty on all 80 charges. Deservedly, the documentary is now shortlisted for an Oscar.     Click here to watch it.  I was enraged by the injustice but inspired by how one of the daughters, who was a lawyer, quit her job to help her father in his hour of need.  It was such a touching illustration of our AsAm family values. I was also elated to learn that, at the end, the good guys won.          This documentary deserves an Oscar to show that justice still prevails in the U.S., at least in this case. The Oscar will greatly publicize worldwide the immense injustice caused by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr.                                             The Misdeeds of Cyrus R. Vance, Jr. (1) No sense of justice: He accommodates the strong and takes campaign money from their attorneys:      Excerpts from  Cyrus Vance Jr. - Wikipedia "Vance also drew controversy for deciding not to press criminal charges against public figures accused of crimes, including Harvey Weinstein, Ivanka Trump, and Donald Trump Jr., after which he received campaign contributions from their attorneys." (2) Adding insult to injury to a weak minority:            Another excerpt  from Cyrus Vance Jr. - Wikipedia:  "In an effort at grandstanding, Vance's office orchestrated a show by parading ex-employees of the bank in a chain, handcuffed to each other, in front of reporters. Nevertheless, Cyrus Vance stated in an interview that the decision to exhibit the non-violent ex-employees was due to "security issues."  Click here to watch the documentary.  How humiliating!  Vance was humiliating powerless citizens to advance his political career.  How cruel!                                Please forward to your friends in NYC so that his constituents will know about his misdeeds.  He was a good D.A. back in 2010, when first elected.  However, power corrupts, he seemingly has become callous and careless. Will the people of Manhattan County still want him, if and when "Small Enough to Jail" wins an Oscar?
