Urgent. S.B. needs your help

A Presidential Election – AsAms’ Golden Opportunity

To help YOU seize that golden opportunity, I need YOUR help.

I, S. B. Woo, will be working HUNDREDS OF HOURS for YOU
in order to induce candidates' response to YOUR questionnaires.
Will you spend 5 minutes to send me a supporting email please?

I need 200 emails from you to induce the candidates to respond.

This year, almost all presidential campaigns have adopted NEW tactics to avoid answering questionnaires from political organizations like 80-20. We've come up with a brilliant strategy (see below the  - - - -  line) to induce at least the Democratic candidates to answer our questionnaires.  However, 80-20 needs 200 supportive emails to demonstrate to the candidates that it has the "ground troops" to execute its strategy.

Here are examples for you.  However, try using your own words.

(a) For CA residents:

"I strongly support 80-20's plan for the Democratic primary in CA.  I'll help drive out votes on June 7.
      Your name,
      City, CA."

(b) NON-CA resident"

"I've already forwarded your e-newsletter to my friends & relatives in CA.
      Victory on June 7th"
      Your name,
      City, State."

S.B., a volunteer for the last 17 years,
Acting President, 80-20 PAC, Inc.

PS:   80-20 PAC elected new officers last night.  They are in acting capacity:
 V.P. Yin-Long Qiu,    Secretary Jing-Li Yu, &   Treasurer Fred M. Wong

80-20's e-newsletter of 3/21 stating its great strategy to increase your clout:

AsAms can dictate the outcome of CA
Democratic presidential primary on June 7th
Here is how.  Just put the following facts together.  You shall agree that 80-20's calculation is right, provided that all CA AsAms voters will do their duty to fight for their children's future by asserting our political clout.

Facts:

1. In a presidential general election, AsAms roughly represent about 7.4% of the vote in CA among Democrats, Republicans or Declines/Independents.
2. However, the turnout in recent Democratic presidential primaries this year has been low.  It'll be about 1/3 that of the general election.  If AsAm voters will all turn out to vote, realizing that a presidential primary in CA is about our only chance to tell politicians that we can affect the outcome of an important election, then the 7.4% triples to 22.2%.
3. The Democratic presidential primary in CA is open, though the Republican one is not.  That is, Declines/Independents may register to vote in a Dem. primary.
4.   An open Dem. primary is a godsend for AsAms, because AsAms are twice as likely to register as Declines than all other voters, thereby drastically increasing AsAm voting clout.  In CA, the number of AsAm Decline voters is at least as large as that of registered Democrats.  If they all follow 80-20's advice and register to vote as Democrats in the June 7th primary, then the 22.2% becomes 44.4%.
5.  80-20 is confident that these voters will follow its recommendation to vote for either Sanders or Clinton.  The one endorsed by 80-20 will win by a landslide, winning a huge % of convention delegates in a state with the largest number of delegates.

RESULT!

With the endorsement of 80-20, after the CA primary, either Bernie will regain his momentum, or Hillary will knock Bernie out.  So winning 80-20's endorsement is a MUST for both campaigns.

The above is 80-20's bargaining power with both presidential candidates.  But it can only succeed with your help.  If you don't live in CA, you can still help by forwarding this email to your relatives and friends in CA.,

To convince the two candidates to answer our questionnaire, 80-20 needs 200 supporting emails in short but powerful sentences from you.  Email me to support 80-20's planned new campaign.   If we get the 200 or more emails, 80-20 will buy media time in CA prior to June 7 to drive the AsAm vote out.

(The remaining portions are deleted by S.B.)

CA Presidential Primary & AsAm Clout

 Making History with 80-20 Again

AsAms can dictate the outcome of CA
Democratic presidential primary on June 7th

YOUR Proud Achievement in 2008, Utilizing CA Primary

In 2008, H. Clinton had already answered 80-20's questionnaire with 6 yeses.  Obama refused to do so.  So 80-20 endorsed Clinton in the CA primary and bought media ads to support her.  Four days before the CA primary, Obama also answered with 6 yeses.   His own field polls had picked up that AsAms preferred Hillary 3 to 1 in the CA primary to be held on 2/5/2008.  We told the Obama campaign that we'd not back out of endorsing Hillary, but would become neutral thereafter.  CNN reported on 2/6/2008 that Hillary won the CA Dem. primary because AsAms backed Hillary 3 to 1, and Hispanics backed her 2 to 1, while a majority of whites favored Obama.

History was made.  All those AsAm cabinet and sub-cabinet members, federal judges, SESs (Senior Executive Service) federal government employees were appointed.  YOU DID IT.

Want to make History Again?
   Send me your email. :-)

News Relating to Peter Liang & Sherry Chen

National Insider Threat May Impact YOU

Peter Liang Demonstration on March 11 Cancelled

An organization which had planned the demonstration announced that it would be postponed indefinitely.  It explained that it was acting in accordance with the advice of Officer Liang's new lawyer Paul Shechtman. Shetchman advised that at this stage the outcome of Liang's trial is best left to the court instead of the streets. Shetchman wants to build a relationship with District Attorney Ken Thompson who has the power to recommend a more lenient sentence for Liang.

Preparing suggestions to DHS on the National Insider Threat Program

Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) is inviting comments since it is proposing rule changes to the "National Insider Threat Program."  One reason that Sherry Chen may still lose her job is related to the "Insider Threat Program."  PAC Board Member Fred M. Wong is in charge of submitting a comment to DHS on behalf of 80-20 PAC.  His first draft is shown below.  Your comments are welcome.

"Many federal agencies enjoy a degree of immunity, but it is only fair and just for the government to take care of the wrongfully investigated victims. Since now DHS is about to institutionalize some of the practices, it is a good time to urge DHS to install an "innocent victim rehabilitation" process.

80-20 Initiative suggests the addition of the following minimum in this "innocent victim rehabilitation":
 1) A formal letter of apology to the innocent victim.
 2) A letter of explanation to his/her employer to clear his/her name and reputation.
 3) Reinstated the victim in a job position equivalent to the one before the investigation.
 4) Financial compensation based on the tangible loss in income and benefits (salary, bonus, etc)
 5) Financial compensation for mental suffering, anguish, etc."

Other comments, suggested by Jeremy Wu of D.C., include:
·         An individual should be allowed full access to his or her security file as part of due process upon investigation or when accused of wrongdoing.

Officer Peter Liang and a Teachable Moment

A Teachable Moment

                         A Brief Update On
Your Success
Peter Zeidenberg, the lawyer who successfully defended Sherry Chen and Dr. Xiaoxing Xi was honored; $18,000 was donated to Sherry Chen on Feb. 16 in D.C.  The event was organized by 80-20 Edu. Foundation, New Asian Leaders and National Council of Chinese Americans. About 140 persons attended the dinner, and another 40 donated but didn't attend.  This kind of event makes our community stronger, and makes our children more proud of themselves.

When Officer Peter Liang's case was first reported in Jan. last year, 80-20 smelled something fishy.  As a result, 80-20 sent out an e-newsletter "Indictment against Peter Liang politically motivated?" Click here to read it.

We did much more.  We talked to Liang's first lawyer (Steve Worth), and Liang's two confidants - Doug Lee of NY and Bona Sun of NJ.  However, according to Doug, Peter Liang didn't want to talk to us on the phone.  So I offered to travel to NYC to talk to him in a restaurant.  You know what?  Liang backed out of that meeting although I took a specific trip to NYC.  After that 80-20 washed its hands of Liang's case.   We couldn't help anyone who didn't want our help.

This is a teachable moment.  A lot of people still don't want 80-20's help even today, EXCEPT when they are in real trouble. 80-20 is NOT that powerful. We can't jump in to help at the last moment, when the situation is really bad.

We still fervently hope that the other orgs. will be effective in helping Liang, because his convictions are drastically different from those from earlier trials involving police officers.   Liang will be sentenced in April, and one of his lawyers said that there could be an appeal.

However, 80-20 is not prepared to help Peter Liang today.   People have to learn that their actions have consequences - a necessary step in our community's political maturity and self-empowerment movement.

Think long-term!  If someone could repeatedly refuse our help, and if 80-20 still jumps in to help at the last moment, it'll set a bad precedent.

Henry Lee of NYC, NY
S. K. Lo of Edina, MN
Kathleen To of Georgetown, TX

I am most grateful to them.  I think your are too.

PS:  Some of you misinterpreted 80-20's last e-newsletter as supporting Sri for
nomination to the Supreme Court.  NO.  80-20 is neutral at this point.  We
are simply reporting to you the politics of a Supreme Court Nomination,
using the possible nomination of Sri as an example.

The 1st AsAm Supreme Court Nominee?

The 1st AsAm Supreme Court Nominee?

Sri Srinivasan, 48, born in India, and a D.C. Circuit Court Judge, has been mentioned often as a possible nominee.  It will be a very smart move by Pres. Obama for reasons to be explained later.

Why is Sri a likely nominee?

A nominee to the Supreme Court needs Senate approval, which involves partisan interests and ideological differences.  The Republicans in control of the Senate don't want to approve an Obama nominee, because, after the election, it could be a Republican President nominating a very conservative justice.

Why nominate Sri then?  It'll be very difficult for the Senate Republicans to refuse to look at Sri's nomination by filibustering.  Why?

(1) Sri clerked for former Justice Sandra Day 0'Conner, a Republican, and
(2) Sri was confirmed by the Senate, less than 3 years ago, by a unanimous vote of 97-0.

Sri's nomination makes it difficult for the Senate Republicans to flip-flop.

Why Is It Such a Smart Move for Pres. Obama?

If Sri wins the Senate's approval, it'll be a win for Obama.  If Sri's nomination is filibustered by the Senate Republicans, which seems certain, it'll drive a wedge between the Republican presidential and congressional candidates and AsAm voters in an election year. It is still a win for Democrats.  Note: 80-20 always tells it like it is.

80-20 hopes that Sri will be the 1st AsAm Supreme Court Justice

When Sri was nominated for the Circuit Court 3 year ago, there was much talk that his nomination will be blocked by the Senate Democrats then in control.  80-20 worked with many Indian Am. national orgs to induce Sen. Reid to submit Sri's nominations to the full senate, which passed it 97-0. Having an Asian Am Supreme Court Justice would substantially decrease the possibility that AsAms will become the scapegoat in hard times.  Note: 80-20 has always worked for every component of the AsAm community.  Does every component help 80-20 back?  Search your hearts.

Updates and help Sherry Chen to help ourselves

Heart of Stone? Heart of Gold?

                     Updating YOUR Successes:
(1) 80-20's campaign to help Ron Unz nominate 5 candidates, including 2 AsAms, for Harvard Overseers was successful.

(2) 5800+ persons signed a petition for DOJ to conduct an independent investigation to determine whether Chinese Ams. were profiled in economic espionage investigations.  The petitioners include 6 Nobel Laureates and numerous leaders of the science, engineering and academic communities.  All names have been mailed to A.G. LynchProf. Chenming Hu, a past 80-20 Board Member, did most of the work.

If YOU become a VICTIM of government prosecution purely due to your national origin, would you HOPE that your community will come to your aid?

   YOU bet!

So here is the situation.   Sherry Chen was a VICTIM of DOJ's cyberspace dragnet. Her case was suddenly dropped just before trial.  Her life is in shambles.  She has a large debt due to her legal fees and she may still lose her job.
   What would you do?

If our hearts are made of stone, we'll say "Tough luck to her."  But 80-20 Educational Foundation (EF), National Association of Chinese Americans (NACA) and New Asian Leaders (NAL) think that most individuals in our community have hearts of gold.  We should help her to help ourselves.

When we become each other's emergency insurance
policy, our community becomes more cohesive. Soon,
everyone including our children, will be soooooooooo
proud of being members of our community.

The three organizations, with 80-20 EF playing the lead role this time, are co-hosting a dinner for two purposes.

     (1) To raise a net amount of $18,000 for Sherry Chen's legal fee debt, and;
     (2) To honor Peter Zeidenberg, who successfully defended both Sherry Chen and Dr. Xiaoxing Xi.

Date and Time:   Feb. 16 (Tuesday), 6 PM

Location:            China Garden, 1100 Wilson Boulevard,
                            Rosslyn, VA  22209 (703 525-5317)

Ticket prices:     $100 ($75 tax deductible); $50O for a head table seat
                            ($475 tax deductible)

Program:            Keynote by Peter Zeidenberg whose Washington Post Op Ed is entitled "Chinese Americans are caught mistakenly in the U.S.'s cybercrime dragnet"

What can you do to help?

Those in the Greater D.C. area:  Buy a ticket for $100 or $500, perhaps a table for $1,000.  Those elsewhere:  Donate money and give the ticket to a friend in greater D.C. area.

Wherever you live, click here to reserve your tickets.  Or please email Stephen Lin, spl.law@hotmail.com to tell him the amount you'll donate.  Or make your check payable 80-20 EF, and mail to  Katy Woo, 5 Farm House Rd., Newark, DE 119711.

Please do your share to help Sherry Chen.  Happy Lunar New Year!
