Volunteerism Leading to the Lowest Overhead
To help make ends meet and to make SELF (Self Empowerment Long-term Fund) reach $1 million/yr for 5 yrs by the Oct 25, 2015
deadline, 80-20 doesn't employ a single employee anymore. That
saves us about $5,500 per month. In the past 3.5 months, we've saved
about $20,000!
Who made that possible? Sarah Chang
is the heroine. She stepped in as a volunteer to handle all the
detailed administrative chores when an earlier staff left. Sarah also wrote the
recent e-newsletter: "Why a 30 year old finance
professional supports 80-20."
Of course, all the other volunteers on 80-20's Boards ALSO pitched in to
do more work as well. MUCH MORE THAN THAT! Most
of 80-20's Board members are also the biggest donors. So they give
both time and money. Click here to check our
donor list. See how they have dedicated themselves for the benefit
of the WHOLE!
Effectiveness
You know what 80-20 has done. We'll not go
over it here.
Adding a NEW Dimension -- a CULTURAL
aspect
Most Asian Ams are too self-centered. We
don't give a damn about the group's interest. We are smart but not smart
enough to realize that if AsAms as a group is discriminated e.g. glass ceiling and higher barriers in college admissions, then as individuals we ALL are DISCRIMINATED, directly
& indirectly.
So 80-20 aims to become a
shining counter example. We want to add the best American values - volunteerism and civic duty - to our AsAm culture.
DO YOUR SHARE
In a community of 20 million of very high per
capita average income, only 1500 noble individuals have donated
to SELF. Isn't that a shame!
DO YOUR SHARE to empower ourselves.
The SELF project is only $8000/yr for 5 yrs
short before reaching the half-a-million per
yr for 5 yrs. It takes only 8 such individuals donating $1k/yr for 5 yrs. Pls. BE THE
ONES who will help us reach that goal.
