                                         Good News & Role Models

[A] Rafael Reif, MIT President, sent an inspirational  campus-wide letter clearly
asserting the rights of innocent scientists of Chinese origin. He warned the
government about "serious long-term cost to the US", if the government
      indulges in its current trend.

"...we must take great care not to create a toxic atmosphere of unfound-
ed
suspicion and fear. Looking at cases across the nation, small number of
researchers of Chinese backgrounders may indeed have acted in bad
faith, but they are the exception and very far from the rule.  Yet faculty
members, postdocs, research staff and students tell me that, in their
dealings with government agencies, they now feel unfairly scrutinized,
stigmatized and on edge - because of their Chinese ethnicity alone."

If you work for a university, you should forward this letter to your Administrators.  Don't be timid.  The skin you'll save may be your own.

[B] Dominic NgChairman and Chief Executive of East West Bank, Los
Angeles, CA, published a persuasive Op Ed at the LA Times.  It is titled
       way to battle Beijing."

He is a great role model.  Most Chinese Americans who are successful in
careers, be they in business, academia, politics or entertainment, are timid to speak
out to defend our civic rights.  They even dissociate themselves from the Chinese American community.  Dominic is an exception.  We salute Dominic Ng.

[C]  S. B. Woo, President of 80-20 EF  and 80-20 SuperPAC, sent a certified
letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray.  Woo urged Wray to back off his
"Whole-of-Society Approach" to catch Chinese spies, because he is using a
totalitarian methodology in peacetime to solve an American challenge.

Whether you've read "Woo's Letter to FBI Director Wray" or not, go visit the Poster Board that shows readers' reactions to Woo's letter.  In many ways, knowing how our community has reacted to this letter is as important as Woo's letter itself.
