Subject: S. B. Woo wrote Pres. Obama urging RE-nomination of two
Asian Am. judges "killed" by Senate Republicans.
When Pres. Obama took office, only 8 of the federal judges were Asian
Ams, all at the lowest rank of District Courts. Thanks to Pres. Obama's
nominations, that number could increase to 15 by the end of the year,
with 2 at the Appeals Courts, only one rank below the Supreme Court.
Unfortunately, on Aug. 4th the Senate Republicans, using a rarely
applied Senate rule, "killed" two of the outstanding AsAm nominations -
those of Goodwin Liu for Appeals Court and Edward Chen for the N. CA
District Court. Both obtained the highest rating by the American Bar
Association -- "unanimously well qualified."
Think about that!
If the Asian Am. community sits idly by, the number of Asian Am. judges
by the end of the year will be reduced to 13 , with only one in the
Appeals Court. Think about how you'll want to vote in the coming 2010
Congressional election -- a message that politicians understand.
S. B. Woo has written Pres. Obama urging the RE-NOMINATION of
these two noted jurists when the Senate comes back in session on Sept.
6. It is hoped that 80-20 PAC will take political action to stand up for our
community.
