The following is from CDC, Center of Disease Control.  It compiles the description of symptoms of COVID-19 provided by China, U.S.A. and UK.  The table uses the exact words used by CDC and provides a comprehensive description of symptoms of COVID-19 disease.  80-20 simply made CDC's info. easier for you to absorb.

What are the common symptoms of COVID-19 disease?

Allergy symptoms that differ from COVID-19?
(Note: Symptoms may vary from person to person.

As spring is starting in the Northern Hemisphere many people will develop allergies. How do you know if your symptoms are those of an allergy or something else?

1.   Itchy eyes
2.   Stuffy nose. (Please also note item 5 in the CDC of China's
column.  It could mean that having stuffy nose doesn't
necessarily mean that one has been infected. However, those
who have been infected may also have nasal congestion owing
    to COVID-19.)
3.   Sneezing

Please wash hands often & take great care of yourself.

Remember how we WORKED TOGETHER to defeat SCA5?  It is coming back in a slightly different form.  All good AsAms in CA must spring to action to nip ACA5 in the bud.

                          What are Proposition 209, SCA5 and ACA5?

Proposition 209 of 1996 is a part of CA's Constitution. It prohibits state government institutions from considering race, sex, or ethnicity, specifically in the areas of (1) public employment, (2) public contracting, and (3) public education.

SCA5 of 2012 was a Senate initiated Constitutional Amendment No. 5It essentially amends Proposition 209 by taking out the two words: "public education".  That is, CA schools and universities may henceforth use "race preference admissions".  That amendment was defeated by many AsAm orgs and individuals working together.

ACA5 of today is an Assembly initiated Constitutional Amendment No. 5.  It was introduced by Assemblywoman Shirley Weber, a Democrat of San Diago.  It proposes to eliminate Prop. 209 form CA Constitution by a referendum vote in 2020.

What is required to eliminate Proposition 209 from CA's Constitution?

The legislative steps required are: (1) passing the Assembly by a 2/3 vote (54 votes out of 80), (2) passing the senate by a 2/3 vote (27 our of 40 votes), and (3) CA voters accepting the referendum by a simple majority in coming November.  If all 3 sequential steps are successful, then "race preference admissions" will again be permissible in CA schools and universities. For details, read a 3/10/2020 SF Chronicle article

Options in How to Protect our Children from being Discriminated

    (a) To defeat ACA5 outright
Only 26 opposition votes are required to defeat ACA5.  There are 14 AsAm Assembly-persons.  Hence defeating ACA5 seems very feasible.
    (b) There are other ways to protect ourselves against ACA5
ACA5 was announced as "The California Act for Economic Prosperity".  If the supporters of ACA5 were sincere about its focus on economic prosperity, then ACA5 should be amended to eliminate the public employment, and public contracting parts of Proposition 209 only.

Our Hero

Assemblyman Ed Chau (916 319-2048) was our community's hero in defeating SCA5. He was the first Assemblyman to publicly announce that he would not vote for SCA5. In this pending struggle, we look to many of the 14 AsAm Assembly-persons to step up and protect AsAm students from being discriminated against. 80-20 Educational Foundation and 80-20 SuperPAC stand ready to assist. It is so obvious that MERIT IS BETTER THAN RACE in deciding whom should be admitted to a university.
