A $39 million war chest for EF?

Great News.  EF's war chest may grow to $39 million!

Two good suggestions about EF's future president came in. We are working on it.  In the meantime, we came up with a new idea.

GREAT IDEA - EF will provide you with history-making serviceafter SB has left. We present this STRATEGY below for your comments. We invite you to TOGETHER think BIG!

One reason for the Jewish political clout is its great resources.  Click here to verify that AIPAC has a $140 million endowment that is growing. Yet it spends $60 million annually.  What if EF were to spend the next 20 years to grow its current war chest of $3 m. to the range of $19 to $39 million to serve you and your children

Under this plan, EF shall continue its political education mission by sending out weekly e-newsletters and expanding its email list. However, EF may not engage in as many rough-and-tumble political battles, since that could be too demanding on a new president.

EF can achieve the HUGE WAR CHEST GOAL,
                               with conservative assumptions.

     They are:

    (1) SB will retire after EF has invested $4 million in Zhang Financial*. It'll probably take him 3+ yrs., working like a dog. EF has a $3 million war chest, but the amount of money in Zhang Financial is only $2.76 million, with the remainder in its cash checking account.

    (2) After that, a new president will come in who is committed to raise at least enough money for EF's minimum annual expenditure, which is $150 K. Indeed, he/she is prohibited by EF Bylaws article 6 from dipping into the principal & interest already in Zhang Financial for 20 years. We think seeking out such a president is more likely, although it'll still demand lot of sacrifice from this president.

    (3) EF will enjoy average luck.  Its average compound interest rate over a 20-year period will range between 8% to 12%.  The above is based on the knowledge that the average annualized return of the S&P 500 Index was 11.69% from 1973 - 2016.   We are also aware that "Past performance is not guarantee for future returns."   So nothing is absolutely guaranteed.

A $19 to $39 Million War Chest for Our Children!

A Compound Interest Calculator is used to find the result of the above strategy.  The initial investment is $4,000,000, the investment period is 20 yrs, and the expected return rate is 10% +/- 2%.  In the chart, the 12% return is indicated by the black line, 10% the red line, and 8% the green line.

It takes money to make money, especially when it comes to relying on compound interest.  To the best of our knowledge, a $4 million endowment, common among Jewish non-profit orgs., is the largest endowment possessed by an AsAm 501 c-3 organization.  So if EF does NOT step forth to endow our community with a significant war chest in 20 years, who will?
EF strongly believes that this ambitious plan will lift our community to the next higher level of political empowerment of Asian Americans. There is no reason that we can't do what the much smaller Jewish community has already done.

We need to live up to our generational responsibility to our children -- give them EQUAL opportunity! Click on 80-20ef.org/posterboard to share your view of this strategy. Together, we shall overcome.

Urgent. Put sbw@udel.edu into your "safe sender list"

IMPORTANT!

Have not received 80-20 EF's e-newsletter for a few weeks? It's Google's new e-mail software program. It has placed EF's e-newsletters into your "promotion" instead of "primary" box or "spam" box.

You may not think you are using google e-mail. Actually you might be. Many university domains ending with @xxx.edu actual use Google's email system.

To avoid it, place sbw@udel.edu into your Google's "safe sender list" and/or your computer's Email-Address Book.

Elections are coming.  The case against Harvard is reaching the decision stage. Stay tuned.  Thanks.

Help Find EF's Next President

A $1,000 Reward for help finding EF's next president

WeChat account ID is: 8020ef.  Please scan our QR code,

version of thise-newsletter, click https://goo.gl/6GsJWe

      S. B. Woo is 80. Sooner or later he'll retire. For the past 10 yrs. or more
the EF's Board has looked for a potential replacement for S. B. Alas, no luck.

Finding a new president is much harder than most people realize. Here are the requirements to be the EF president, if we want someone with SB's characteristics:

1) Willing to spend 40 to 60 hours per week on EF matters, day or night,
weekends, and/or while on vacation, when duty calls,
2) Willing to stick his/her neck out to fight for the benefit of our community,
3) Rich experience in public service and in politics in order to do the job
well and to be able to bear the pressure associated with items 1) and 2),
4) Write a weekly e-newsletter that will empower the AsAm community
and/or keep EF alive and jumping in the hearts & minds of a lot of AsAms,
5) Can raise at least $150,000 per year which is the minimum budget for EF,
(S.B. also built a $3 million endowment along the way), and
6) Willing to donate at least $5000 per yr. to EF related causes, to set a
positive example for 80-20 supporters.

Requirements 2) and 3) are particularly difficult to fulfill.

We have tried nurturing someone from within and recruited/hired and trained someone from without. No luck!

However, we should also think outside the box and look for a very different kind of president.  Nevertheless, the person must be willing to sacrifice self for the  community and be a responsible good leader.

We look to all of you to help us find good candidates

Don't hesitate to nominate yourself.  Sacrificing self for your
community is an honorable act.  But if
you nominate others
please acquire their consent first.  Confidentiality will be
honored, if requested. Email sbw@udel.edu.

EF Willing to Consider Other Alternatives

Right now serving as EF's president is a volunteer job.  But paying the next president is NOT out of the question.   If someone is qualified, we could discuss an annual salary around $150,000.  $150K is considered excellent pay for a 501 c-3 org. with a $3 million endowment.  There will be a probational period of 6 months, when the person will be working full-time, but NOT be paid.  The willingness to sacrifice self for the community is an important requirement for this job.  Bear in mind that S.B. worked for 20 years as a volunteer, and in addition donated more than $200K.

                                   Poster Board Is A Success

The poster board is successful. Click on 80-20ef.org/posterboard to post your view and /or read others' posts. Some are substantive discussions. Love to hear from you, particularly regarding EF's next president. EF fights for you. Help EF find a good president. If EF dies, YOU may lose a layer of protection.

Political Maturity (3) - Ask for accountability

Ask for accountability from our leaders

WeChat account ID is: 8020ef.  Please scan our QR code,
shown below, & on 80-20 EF's WeChat site. For a Chinese
version of this e-newsletter, click  https://goo.gl/6GsJWe .

Political Maturity We Need:    4) Ask for ACCOUNTABILITY

We, AsAms, are culturally reluctant to ask for accountability from our leaders, be they AsAm elected officials and/or community leaders. The implicit reason for NOT asking for accountability is that it could lead to bad feelings, which is bad for forging UNITY.

However, the above is a baseless hypothesis. If "not asking for accountability helps forge unity," then AsAms would have the most united, though inefficient, community. The truth is that we are the most splintered and inefficient community, despite highly efficient individuals and profit-seeking companies!

"Don't ask for accountability" is an elite-created-myth for us little folks. Our elites want to give each other "FACE" and help each other retain leadership positions without the requisite sacrifice and toiling. We must press for accountability!

Take for example the group of 14 that asked for a meeting with FBI Director Wray.  Another week has passed -- without a reply from Wray and without a fuss from the group of 14.  Are they leaders?  Are they helping us or just helping to affirm the humiliating image that "AsAm activists will timidly walk away when ignored"?  You be the judge.

How 80-20 EF had advised them to address Director Wray,
                                             which they rejected.

EF would have joined the group of 14 had it agreed to "carry a stick" in its letter to Director Wray.  It'll be something like:

....... In 8 weeks, we are planning a National Press Conference in Washington D.C.  We'll announce our coalition's understanding of your earlier Senate statement, which broadly painted all Chinese nationals as a threat to our national security.  We will give credit or hold accountable President Trump who appointed you and the Republican Senate which confirmed you.  We trust that we'll hear from you by then.    ........

Such a letter would be sent "registered and return-receipt requested", via email, and by fax, to Director Wray, Attorney Gen. Sessions of DOJ,  Chairperson of the Republican Nat'l Comm (RNC), and President Trump.  RNC and the White House would pass the word to Director Wray to pay attention to our letter.

If such a letter were to be sent, the outcome would mostly likely be quite different. If we still didn't hear from Wray, then we may have used the "National Press Conference in Washington D.C." to urge our community to punish during the coming mid-term election. Either way, our community would not be humiliated. Indeed, Director Wray may be induced to reconsider his earlier Senate statement.

We live in a great nation which truly practices democracy.  Anyone who understands democracy knows that it is fitting and proper for our community to exercise our rights to reward or punish politicians according to our interest during elections.  That is how America's democracy works.

80-20 EF continues its offer to work with the group of 14 to recover our community's honor, without getting a positive response.

Asking for accountability will address
                  poor performance.
